Halloween Weekend

Braden's school had their fall festival on Friday evening. We had fun watching the little ones play on the big hill. When we left there, we went to CSA's Trunk-or-Treat.

We had our storm doors installed on Saturday afternoon. The weather Saturday afternoon and Sunday was gorgeous - so the doors were put to use all day.

We ended up with only one trick-or-treater on Halloween.

Braden has picked up some new stacking skills. He and Daddy worked on building some towers and knocking them down on Sunday. Now, everything gets stacked.

Braden has learned a few more new signs: work, ketchup, and cracker. We're still working on potato.

18 month check up

Braden now weighs in at 21 pounds and 6 ounces. He is now 32 & 1/8 inches tall.

Since our last post, Braden has added a few words to his vocabulary.
He is now also signing shoes, all gone, socks, and school.

We have a Halloween festival at his school this Friday. This means I really need to get in gear and go get his costume...

Remembering to breathe...

Sorry it's been 3 months since the last update. We've been rather busy!
***

Daniel has been putting in some long hours at work during the week and on weekends because the shop is swamped. That's not necessarily a bad thing though - better that than the opposite!
***

I've been busy as ever with school. I've been teaching pe, math, and science - same as last year. However, this year, I'm making massive changes to the math curriculum. I've opted to no longer take homework grades. Instead, we grade the work in class the following day and then the students have a quiz on Friday (~5 minutes to take) that covers the previous week's material. In addition to the Friday quizzes, students also have computation quizzes on Mondays (~30 minutes to take) and comprehensive quizzes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (~3-5 minutes each)that are intended to remind students that they don't get to forget past material.

On top of all of this, I'm still working on the Virtual Health curriculum. I spent 20 hours a few weekends ago getting the curriculum road-mapped and developing assignments to align with the TEKS 100%. Now, I need to enter the assignments into the Learning Management System and ensure alignment with iNACOL standards as well.

I don't think I'll have many weekends open until winter break...

Braden has been keeping us both busy! He is growing up so fast. He is climbing on everything (including ladders), running, falling, being bitten (at daycare), signing more (car, banana, more, hot, where, bye-bye, Daddy, Mommy, paci, cat, dog, airplane, please, milk, eat, drink, all done/finished, light, thank you - I'm sure I'm leaving some out), vocalizing more (he now says car, hot, Dada, Mama, Papa, Roxy, more, thank you, and Nana), and generally keepking us worn out. Braden has been working on identifying body parts at school. He is very good at identifying facial features and toes. Now, it's time to work on the rest of the body.

This last week, we had to go to the doc because he was wheezing. His O2 sats were down to 95%, so he is now on a breathing treatment until the wheezing subsides. Hopefully, the wheezing will be gone by his next doctor appointment (this Friday) and we can stop treatment. He really doesn't mind the mask, but the sound of the air compressor is a little scary. He is being quite the trooper though and only fusses for a few seconds at the start of treatment now.
***

Amongst all of this, we are still finding time to relax a little and breathe. We also have a house project we're waiting to be completed. Our parts are currently on order to put storm doors on all exterior doors. Thanks to Mom, Nannie, and Papa for the early Christmas gifts!

If I ever remember what I've forgotten, I'll try to get it posted before I forget it again.

15-Month Check-up

Braden weighed in at 21 pounds and 1 ounce - which is one ounce less than his 12-month check-up. Braden also grew 2 inches in the last three months and is now 29.25 inches tall.

Dr. G voiced some concern about the lack of vocabulary Braden is using. I told him that I'm not concerned at this point. I feel Braden is developing just fine. Dr. G also voiced concern about the lack of weight gained. Again, I told him that I'm not concerned about that right now. Braden is very active and is burning off what he consumes. We go back in 3 months...

Gizmo

Gizmo had an episode two nights ago that left him not breathing/passed out - this is the second time we've seen this in ~2 months. Daniel took him to the vet to get checked out. We now know that his red blood cell count is about 1/2 of what it should be - severely anemic. We're still waiting on more test results to come back before we receive a diagnosis though...

New Teeth

Braden now has two more teeth! Evidently he skipped getting his upper canines and now has both of his upper first bicuspids! As expected with new teeth, he's been rather fussy lately...

Rain Dance

Since it's so popular with those that have already seen it, I figured I'd better post this too.

Alright! It's been a busy couple of months! I've added more photos to the Month 11 album and added the Month 12 album to Picasa. If you have more pics to contribute, please do so by uploading them to Picasa or sending them to me to upload.

Other updates:
On March 22nd, one of Braden's buddies at school decided he might taste good and bit his left shoulder...

Braden seems to like sour foods - lemons and pickles in particular.

Braden's first birthday party was a success - balloons, bubbles, chalk, tears and all.

Braden seems to like his new forward-facing car seat. He actually stays awake for most of the time he's in the car now! I'm not sure if that means he can't sleep because he's afraid of how I drive, or that he's just taking in the scenery. *Grin*

The weekend after his birthday, Braden and I joined most of the family in Temple for a birthday party/reunion. Braden had an accident with a faucet and got a gash on his forehead. He does now have a small scar from that and a small scar from picking at the bandaid with, evidently, razor-sharp fingernails...

The weekend of the 15th of May, Braden hit his head on the entertainment center and got another gash next to his left eye. I think he's trying to see how much blood it will take to make Mommy completly freak out!!!

Hopefully, the remainder of the school year goes smoothly and summer school starts without too many hiccups.

Updates!

First - the pictures! I've added some pics to previous months so I've included all updated albums here:
Braden Cai - Month 8
Braden Cai - Month 9
Braden Cai - Month 10
Braden Cai - Month 11

Braden sure has been keeping us on our toes lately! He is very good at creeping around on whatever he can grab onto. He's also now mastered crawling and he sure is fast! Braden still loves to hold onto a couple of fingers and take off, but now he sometimes ventures a few steps with only one finger to hold onto...

He can now stand unsupported for up to 20 seconds. He can even squat down and stand back up while unsupported occasionally - if he's not paying attention to the fact that he's unsupported that is.

We're now up to between 3 and 5 hours at night with Braden sleeping in HIS bed.

Braden really enjoys working on the computer like Mommy and Daddy! Hopefully we'll get some pics posted soon of him working hard on his computer!

The ladies at daycare told me that he was using a walker today (push toy) and figured out that when he got stuck that he could back up to get unstuck.

Braden has been working very hard at saying "ma" and "meh" lately. The ladies at daycare said that all this week everything has been "ma-ma" or "ma-meh" or "meh-meh". Sometimes he'll throw even throw in a "ba" or "da" when he's at home.

I'm sure there's a ton more, but I just can't think of it right now.

If anyone wants to come visit, let us know and I'm sure we can make room for a few people at a time for a few days at a time.

Pics!

Braden Cai - Month 8

Braden Cai - Month 9

We're in Trouble Now!

Braden decided to start crawling Friday night! After already knowing how to pull up and creep around on the furniture and hold on to Mommy's or Daddy's fingers and walk ALL around the house, Braden's now learned that he doesn't need furniture or fingers to be able to move around.

9 Months Old!

Today, Braden is nine months old! We went out shopping (since it's a flex day for me at work) and got stuff for the house, dropped my pants off to be taken up, went to Babies R Us and got some goodies, then went to see Dr. Gmoser.

Braden weighed in at 18 pounds, 12 ounces. (only 1/4 pound more than November 15th...)
Braden measured 26 1/8 inch tall. (only 1/8 inch taller than November 15th...)
Braden's head circumference is now 47 cm. (1.25 cm more than November 15th.)
Hemoglobin level (measure of iron in the blood)- 11.8 g/dl ( >11 is good)
The results of this last measurement just means that we don't need to use iron supplements. (which is good, considering that I'm not giving him any supplemental vitamins right now anyway)

Overall, Braden's head circumference is in the 90th-95th percentile; weight is in the 10th-25th percentile; height is below the 3rd percentile; weight-for-height is in the 90th-95th percentile.

Dr. Gmoser said that we'll wait and see how he measures at his 1-year check-up. He's hoping there's a lag in growth due to increased activity. Once he adjusts to this new activity level, his growth should catch up.

Last night, Daniel and I managed to take down our old TV unit and put together our new entertainment center! Surprisingly, even though it's a fairly large wall unit, it seems to make the room look bigger... Now, we've just got to figure out what to do with the old TV and stand.

Time to go check on my Braden Cai. (He's been napping for the last hour. I guess he decided to let me update his blog for a change.) I'll try and get pics posted soon.

More Teeth!

On January 9th, two more teeth popped through! Braden's now got the two upper left incisors to go with his bottom central incisors. The upper right central and lateral incisors are working their way through too though. We'll just have to give them another week or so.

Happy Birthday to Uncle Britt tomorrow! (we probably won't have time to post again tomorrow...)

We'll be going to music class tomorrow morning! Hopefully Mommy and Daddy are up to it. I'm sure Braden will be ready to make some noise and dance!
