New Widget!

I've added a Google Calendar to the bottom of this page.

I'm hoping to keep birth date/time/gender guesses posted here as well as any other events that are pertinent to this blog.

If you'd like for me to post your guess, leave a comment with the date, time of day (am or pm), and gender you'd like posted for your guess.

Also, for those that don't know - We've decided on names:
Boy: Braden Cai Carroll
Girl: Danica Ainslee Carroll

Week 26

Well, we survived all the travel associated with the holidays. Yea! Fortunately, Daniel was a really good sport and did all the driving. I've gotten to where it's hard for me to drive for more than about 30 minutes...

We had a really good time getting to visit with everyone and look forward to seeing everyone again soon - whether that be before OR after the baby is born.

I'm a little behind on my updates since we were not home over the holidays so here is week 26:

  • Your baby weighs just under 2 pounds (850g) and could possibly survive if delivered now. Your baby measures approximately 9.2 inches (23cm) from crown to rump.
  • He is growing fast and gaining weight now. His skin is less transparent and is becoming opaque as fat builds up.
  • Your baby's heart is beating 120 to 160 beats per minute, as you have already heard at several doctor or midwife visits.
  • Until now, your baby's eyes have been sealed shut, but he reopens them this week. The eyes are almost fully formed and the retinas contain all the layers they will have when your baby is born.
  • Your baby's eyes are blue right now, no matter the ethnic origin or eye-color of you and your partner since eyes do not acquire their final color until months after birth.
  • Your baby is lean right now, but is getting fatter all the time as fat is being deposited.
  • Your baby's skin is getting thicker and paler and is becoming less red and wrinkled as more fat is deposited.
  • Your baby has eyebrows, eyelashes and fingernails, though all are short and need to grow more.

In my next post, I'll put info about week 27, pics, and more measurements - including how far my belly sticks out back to front (not circumference). ;)

Week 25

  • Your baby now weighs around 1.5 lbs (700g), and measures about 8.8 inches (22cm) from crown to rump, but this varies from baby to baby.
  • Your doctor should be able to hear your baby's heartbeat, using a stethoscope or Doppler ultrasound device. If your partner puts his ear right on your belly in the right position, he might even be able to hear it unaided if there is no background noise.
  • Your baby sleeps and wakes in a more regular pattern now. You may notice that your baby is particularly active when you are resting.
  • The center of your baby's bones are beginning to harden.
  • If your baby is a boy, the testes will start to descend into the scrotum now. If your baby is a girl, the vagina will begin to hollow out and mature now.
  • Your baby can make a fist now and may already have a preference for the right or left hand.
  • With modern medical technology, your baby would have a chance to survive if it were born now.

"Papa's Cradle"

We had Christmas with Daniel's family this last weekend. One of the items received was built by his grandfather - Dusty. I'm sure we'll get much use out of this!

Dusty has recommended that we add a plaque on the end, like the one above, with the name and birthdate of each child that uses the cradle.

Week 24 & Pic from Last Week

  • Your baby is now about 8.4 inches from crown to rump (21cm) and weighs about 1.2 pounds (530g).
  • Your baby's face and body now look more like a full-term baby. She now looks close to how she will look at birth.
  • The eyes, though they are still closed, are now close together on the front of the face and the ears are in their final position. Eyelashes are fairly well-developed and hair is growing on your baby's head.
  • Your baby's movements are becoming more restricted now as she fills up the uterus more. Cartwheels and somersaults inside the amniotic sac are no longer possible, but she can still hold the umbilical cord and touch and feel around her. Though your baby is already living in tight quarters in the amniotic sac, she will soon have even less room to move around.
  • Her vital organs are now quite mature. However, since the lungs are not yet fully formed, your baby would have breathing problems if born prematurely at this stage.
  • Your baby is becoming increasingly conscious of the world outside and may feel startled when you are startled.
  • Your baby may alternate between having very active and very calm periods.
  • Your baby may have facial expressions such as frowning, squinting and pursing of the lips.

Week 23

I'm going to try and get the next round of belly pics up this weekend. Daniel's feeling a little under the weather right now, so I may have to use the tripod...

  • Your baby now weighs almost 1 lb (450g) and measures about 8 inches (20cm) from crown to rump.
  • She is becoming plumper as her fat is being laid down at a high rate, but her skin is still wrinkled and reddish. The wrinkled and loose appearance of her skin is due to the faster production of her skin than the fat that fills it out. The reddish appearance of her skin is due to the deposition of pigment as her skin loses its translucent appearance.
  • Your baby can kick and punch vigorously by now, but she may also be gently feeling the umbilical cord and rubbing her hands and face against the inside membrane of the amniotic sac that holds her.
  • She is still swallowing amniotic fluid (which provides an important nutritional supplement to the nutrition she gets from you via the placenta) and is passing some of it as urine. The swallowing of the amniotic fluid may cause your baby to get the hiccups and you may even be able to feel this as her body jumps inside yours.
  • The lanugo hair on your baby's body may turn darker at this time.

Week 22 - Thanksgiving, Guesses, & Themes

Thanksgiving was great! We got to see everyone and relax a little. Now, it's back to the daily grind for 3 more weeks before Winter Break.

Many guesses of gender are leaning toward boy... (Just remember that nothing's been confirmed.)

Some have asked about themes - we're going to go with a safari/jungle theme. I like the safari theme, but the jungle theme has brighter colors... So, we were planning on doing the room in safari and accessories/toys in jungle. :)

  • Your baby measures about 7.6 inches (19cm) from crown to rump and weighs about 12.25 ounces (350g).
  • Eyebrows have developed.
  • His digestive system now functions in a rudimentary manner. Undigested amniotic fluid passes into his bowel which he will eventually excrete after birth. Your baby can suck and swallow and may even suck his thumb.
  • Your baby's senses are developing, especially his sense of touch. He can feel his face and stroke his arms and legs.

The "Big" Ultrasound

I think all that was "big" about this ultrasound was the level of frustration at my doctor's office after the ultrasound...

Measurements:
Bi-Parietal Diameter = 5.1 cm (21w 3d)
Head Circumference = 19.0 cm (21w 1d)
Abdomen Circumference = 15.4 cm (20w 2d)
Femur Length = 3.3 cm (20w 0d)
Humerus Length = 3.2 cm (20w 5d)
Weight Approximation = 363 gm ~ 12 oz
Current Presentation = Breech

All measurements are right on track at 20w 4d and the estimated due date remains April 10th, 2009 - for now.

Week 21

We're 1/2 way now!

  • Your baby weighs about 10.5 ounces (300g) and measures about 7.2 inches (18cm) from crown to rump. He still moves about freely in amniotic fluid.
  • Your baby may respond to external sounds, such as the music you are listening to or your voice.
  • Your baby has developed some red blood cells already. The white blood cells that your baby needs to fight infections are being manufactured.
  • He is developing taste buds on his tongue.
  • His digestive system is sufficiently advanced to absorb water and sugar from the amniotic fluid that he swallows and pass it to his large bowel.
  • Your baby has lanugo hair on his forehead and upper lip and his eyebrows are thickening.
  • Vernix (the waxy substance that covers and protects your baby's skin) accumulates on your baby's eyebrows.
  • Your baby's eyes are still sealed shut.
  • Your baby continues to grow and develop and his kicking is getting stronger now.

Friday, November 14, 2008

Week 20

  • Your baby weighs about 9 ounces (260g) and measures about 5.6 to 6.4 inches (14 to 16cm) from crown to rump.
  • Her skin is thickening and developing multiple layers- the epidermis and the dermis, the deeper layer where it will form fat. Your baby is now also developing a waxy protective coating for her skin called vernix caseosa. The vernix protects your baby's skin which is continuously submersed in amniotic fluid. Vernix, which is particularly thick around the eyebrows is held in place by tiny downy hairs called lanugo.
  • Your baby can now grip with her fists. Toenails and scalp hair are growing.
  • At this point, it may be possible to determine the baby's sex by ultrasound, if the baby cooperates, but the ultrasound technician will rarely guarantee the sex based on the ultrasound results as mistakes are sometimes made at an early ultrasound.
  • You can hear the baby's heartbeat with a Doppler ultrasound device or a stethoscope.

Week 19

  • Your baby measures about 5.2 to 6 inches (13-15cm) from crown to rump and weighs about 7 ounces (200g).
  • The buds for the permanent teeth are forming behind those that have already developed for the first teeth.
  • Your baby's nervous system and brain development continue at a spectacular pace. By this week, your baby's motor neurons, which connect muscle to the brain, have grown into place so that your baby can consciously direct her movements. Millions of neurons inside your baby's brain are growing and forming connections and the nerves in her body are being covered in a fatty substance called myelin.
  • Your baby's ears are now placed on the sides of her head and her limbs are now in proportion.
  • Your baby's tiny foot is just one inch long, but is in perfect proportion to the rest of her leg.
  • Your baby can hear your voice and recognize it.

Friday, October 31, 2008

Week 18

  • Your baby weighs about 5.25 ounces (150g) and now measures 5 to 5.6 inches (12.5 to 14cm) from crown to rump.
  • He is practicing breathing by gulping amniotic fluid into its lungs. This helps the lung's development so they will function at birth.
  • Your baby may also be sucking his thumb.
  • Meconium is present in your baby's bowels.
  • There is hair present on your baby's scalp and sweat glands are developing.
  • Your baby is becoming more sensitive to the outside world and is moving around, kicking and punching.
  • As there is still plenty of space in your uterus, your baby can move around a lot, sitting cross-legged, reclining or even turning somersaults!
  • He can probably hear by now as the ossicles (the bones that pass sound to the inner ear) have hardened and the portion of the brain that receives signals from the brain is under development.
  • Your baby is getting used to the sound of your heartbeat and blood passing through the umbilical cord, but may be startled by loud noises.
  • Your baby is aware of some things in the outside world, including sounds and light.
  • If you let the sun shine on your belly, your baby may be able to perceive a warm red glow.

My throat is all better now! However, I've now got a nasty cough that's developed after having a head cold all of this week... Only being able to take regular Robitussin and Chlor-Trimeton allergy medicine can only go so far.

The belly is definitely growing now! I'll try and get more pics posted soon.

We're ready for trick-or-treaters tonight. If we don't get many, my candy bucket at school gets to be refilled!

Happy Halloween!

Week 17

  • Your baby now weighs more than the surrounding placenta.
  • She measures about 4.4 to 4.8 inches (about 11 to 12cm) from crown to rump and weighs about 3.5 ounces (100g).
  • She is positioned halfway between your pubic bone and your navel.
  • Fat, which is important for your baby's metabolism and heat production is beginning to form around this time.
  • The placenta, which will weigh more than a pound at full term, is also developing rapidly. It is now a large and well-established network of blood vessels responsible for exchanging nutrients and waste to support your baby.

For the last couple of days I've had a sore throat... Peppermints and hot tea with honey seem to help, but sleeping through the night is impossible! (I've already been up 5 times tonight! I finally gave up and got up.)

Oh, Thursday was a little chilly here, so one of the active classes joined my class in the gym and played mat ball. Well, a wild ball smacked me pretty good upside the head! The left side of my face had a nice red mark for about half an hour...

This weekend, I'm hoping to get some rest and get some more planning done for math! I've got this upcoming week planned, but would like to get way ahead if possible. If I can get a couple of weeks planned, I want to go hunting for some baby stuff!

Saturday, October 18, 2008

Week 16

  • Fine hair called lanugo covers your baby, who now measures about 4.3 to 4.6 inches (10.8 to 11.6cm) from crown to rump and weighs about 2.8 ounces (80g).

  • Fingernails are well formed and the arms and legs may be seen moving on an ultrasound. Your baby already has his own unique fingerprint pattern!

  • Your baby can hold his head erect and he can also make faces with his slightly developed facial muscles. Your baby may practice squinting, frowning and opening and closing his mouth.

  • Your baby's bones have enough calcium deposits to show on an X-ray. If your baby is female, her ovaries will be in place in her pelvis and more than five million ova (some of which may be fertilized to become your own grandchildren in another generation!) have formed.

Weight Gain Breakdown: (for what I should gain - I'm only up 3 pounds so far.)

Heartburn???

Last night we went to Chub's fundraising dinner at SDH. After dinner, my chest started hurting - just below my sternum (as it had been doing off and on all day). I thought I had maybe overdone my morning workouts this week. The only thing that seemed to relieve the pain/pressure was to push on the area or lay back semi-reclined. Later I thought that perhaps this was heartburn instead of soreness. Any ideas???

November Appointment

Our next appointment is scheduled for Wednesday, November 26th. We have to go to the hospital for this ultrasound... I was told that I'll have 30 minutes from when I arrive to down 32 ounces of water. Then, my job for the next 30-60 minutes is to keep all of it in my bladder. (That should be fun.)

Two hours after the hospital does their thing, we get to take the ultrasound findings to our doc to review the results. So, since this ordeal is scheduled to take about 3-4 hours out of my day I decided to get it over with early - 7am appointment (6:30am arrival). I was fortunate enough to be able to schedule this for a day that we're out of school so I don't have to use any sick leave!

We're still taking belly pics, but the pics just aren't showing anything... Daniel and I can tell that my belly is bigger, but that's about it.

Week 15

  • Your baby measures about 3.7 to 4.1 inches (about 9.3 to 10.3cm) from crown to rump and weighs about 1.75 ounces (50g).
  • Your baby's bones still consist of soft cartilage but they are now beginning to harden and the development of the bones and the marrow continues.
  • Her ears are developing into a more recognizable shape and any hair already on the head and brows will become thicker.
  • Your baby may already be sucking her thumb.
  • Her skin is thin and translucent and all her blood vessels can be seen through it.
  • Her hair continues to grow on her head and her eyebrows. If her hair will be dark, the follicles will start to generate pigment to color her hair.
  • Your baby is moving more now and is becoming increasingly flexible. She can bend her arms at the elbows and wrists and she can make tiny fists with her hands.

Cravings & Belly Growth

Well, I've definitely started craving things I've never really liked before. My main craving so far has been MILK! I went through a gallon last week - without any help from Daniel! If I can't get my hands on a huge glass of milk, ice cream or sundaes have satisfied my cravings so far.

Daniel and I both swear that my belly has grown. However, looking at the pictures we've been taking you can't really tell a difference between week 1 and now. Maybe tonight's picture will show a difference...

Week 14

  • Your baby measures about 3.2 to 3.5 inches (7.6 to 8.9cm) from crown to rump and weighs about 0.9 ounces (25g).
  • Your baby is now nourished by the placenta.
  • His face is developing and his cheeks and the bridge of his nose are appearing.
  • His ears are moving from the sides of his neck to higher on his head and his eyes are moving closer together.
  • Your baby's external genitals are now distinct and may be recognized on an ultrasound.
  • Your baby will move away from stimuli near your tummy, such as noise and light.
  • Your baby's eyebrows have formed and a small amount of hair, called lanugo, has appeared all over his body.
  • Lanugo, which will be shed before birth and replaced with the hairs with which your baby will be born, is thought to have a protective function.
  • Insulin is present in your baby's pancreas.
  • Some bones may be well outlined.
  • Your baby's thyroid gland, already developed by this week, begins to make hormones.
  • Baby boys begin to develop the prostate gland at this time and the ovaries of baby girls descend from the abdomen into the pelvis.

Week 13 - Beginning of 2nd Trimester

  • Your baby is about the size of a peach and is growing rapidly. Crown to rump, your baby measures 2.6 to 3.1 inches (6.5 to 7.8cm) and weighs 0.5 to 0.7 ounces (14 to 20g).
  • Your baby's legs are longer than her arms and her skin is red and transparent.
  • Her eyelids are fused together and won't open for about four more months.
  • Her arms are long enough to reach her mouth and she may begin to place her thumb in her mouth. Her sucking reflex, however, is not yet developed.
  • The tissue that will become your baby's bones is being laid out, especially around her head and her arms and legs.
  • Some ribs may be distinguished at this time.
  • The nose and chin are more prominent now.
  • Your baby will begin to practice breathing in the next few weeks as her chest rises and falls in mock breathing motions.
  • She will swallow small amounts of amniotic fluid which will be passed as urine.
  • Your placenta is providing all of your baby's needs for nutrition, oxygen and waste disposal, though the amniotic fluid will become more important later on.
  • All major components of the body are formed and now must grow and mature.
  • From now on, your baby's development will consist primarily of organ maturity and growth and body refinement.

Floating Fetus

I've added a new widget to the left. If you click on the numbers it will change the display to be one of four things: Days Left, Weeks & Days Left, Days Completed, Weeks & Days Completed.

Enjoy!

Week 12

  • The end of this week of pregnancy marks the end of the first trimester.
  • Your baby is now almost 2.5 inches long (6.1cm) when measured from crown to rump, and weighs between 0.3 and 0.5 ounces (9 to 13g).
  • Your baby's fingers and toes have separated and are getting longer.
  • Your baby can open and close its mouth and drinks amniotic fluid which it passes out as urine.
  • Its head is becoming more rounded, though it is still large in proportion to its body.
  • It has eyelids.
  • You can now hear your baby's heartbeat with a Doppler Ultrasound device!
  • Your baby continues to grow rapidly and has doubled in size in the last three weeks alone.
  • The face is beginning to look more human, and all body structures are present with a few refinements still in progress.
  • Fingernails and toenails begin to develop this week.
  • Your baby's muscles are sufficiently developed to allow for involuntary movements at this time.
  • The messages which control your baby's movements are sent from the spine, rather than the brain, which is not yet sufficiently developed.

Week 11

I know I'm behind in updating the blog... Hurricane Ike wasn't very nice and we've been a little busy.

Here's the weekly info:
  • Your baby is growing incredibly rapidly right now. She is approximately 1.75 to 2.4 inches (4.4 to 6cm) when measured from crown to rump. She will double her length in the next three weeks.
  • Your growing baby weighs about 0.3 ounces (8g).
  • The neck is developing and the chin lifts up from the chest.
  • Fingernails are present.
  • While your baby's sex was already determined at the time of fertilization, male or female genitalia are now visible.
  • Essential organs are formed and most have begun to function.
  • The blood vessels in the placenta are increasing in number to meet your baby's increasing nutritional needs.
  • Her ears are moving towards the sides of her head, away from the neck.
  • Your baby's head is still not in proportion with her body. Your baby's head accounts for about half of her body length.

We had our first OB appointment on Tuesday, September 16th. We got two new pictures of Baby Carroll!

This picture is a side view with the head to the right. Dr. C said we're measuring right at 10 weeks and 4 days - right on track! (These pictures aren't as good as the ones at the RE's office.)

09/16 10 weeks 4 days

This pic is a front view with the head to the left. Baby Carroll was dancing around when this pic was taken. It seemed that the head was in a vise because everything but the head was moving!

Our next appointment is scheduled for October 16th. So, until then I get to take my vitamins, eat plenty, and not lift anything - per the family-enforced restrictions I've been put under. ;)

Week 10

  • The crown-to-rump length of your baby is about 1.25 to 1.68 inches (between 3.1 and 4.2cm). He weighs about 0.18 ounces (5g).
  • The placenta is now producing progesterone which helps to make nutrients for your developing baby.
  • Your baby has passed the stage when he is most susceptible to damage. By the end of this week, the danger zone for congenital abnormalities has passed.
  • The plan for your baby's body has been completely laid down by now. Further growth and cell division will build on this plan.
  • Taste and tooth buds have appeared.
  • Your baby has recently developed fingers and toes which are now well-formed.
  • Ankles, wrists and the inner ear have formed.
  • Your baby's nose is flat and his eyes are far apart.
  • His eyes, ears, mouth and nose are all recognizable.
  • The tail is disappearing.
  • Your baby is moving around the amniotic sac, and moving his feet and ankles. You still will not be able to feel these movements but you may be able to see them on an ultrasound.
  • Blood is circulating through the arteries and the vein of the umbilical cord.
  • The brain of your baby is developing at a phenomenal rate. About one quarter of a million new neurons are produced every single minute at this stage in your pregnancy.
  • If your baby is a boy, his testes, though they are not even clearly visible, are already producing testosterone.
  • Your baby is no longer called an embryo, but rather a fetus.

Ultrasound With Heartbeat

We had our 2nd ultrasound today and got to hear and see the heartbeat! That was really neat!

Our little bean is measuring about 2cm and has a heartrate of 168 beats per minute.

The next appointment is scheduled for September 16th!

Ultrasound 090208

Friday, August 29, 2008

Week 9

  • Your baby measures about 0.9 to 1.2 inches (2.2 to 3cm) from crown to rump.
  • Your baby's arms and legs are longer and her hands are flexed at the wrist.
  • The head is growing more erect and the neck is more developed.
  • On an ultrasound, you may see your baby moving, though you still can not feel this.
  • The organs are forming.
  • Ears are developed and the eyelids have begun to cover up your baby's eyes.
  • Hands and feet appear as well as small buds which will become fingers and toes.
  • The paddles of your baby's hands have clearly defined finger ridges now, with the tissue between them (which previously made them look webbed) reducing to leave separate fingers.
  • Your baby's back has started to straighten slightly and the tail is now shrinking.
  • The head still seems large and is curved forwards on her chest.
  • Your baby is starting to look like a tiny person!

Friday, August 22, 2008

Week 8

  • Your baby's crown to rump measurement is about 0.56 to 0.8 inches (14 to 20mm).
  • Your baby's face has a recognizable shape with eyelids and the tip of a nose with formed nostrils, though his head is still very large compared to the rest of his body.
  • All major organs are now formed and in place, though they still need to mature.
  • A tongue has already formed. The ears are forming both internally and externally.
  • The arms and legs extend forward and shoulders, elbows, hips and knees are detectable.
  • Knees and elbows have begun to form on the limbs.
  • Tiny fingers and toes are starting to appear at the tips of your baby's developing limbs and the arms may be slightly flexed at the elbows and wrists.
  • Your baby is moving around a lot, moving his legs and flexing his spine, but you are unable to feel it at this point.
  • Your baby's genitals have begun development, though they are still difficult to identify.

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Week 7

  • Your baby is 0.16 to 0.2 inches long (4-5mm) when measured from crown to rump. It is now identifiable as a human baby. (Maybe at the end of the week...)

  • The limb buds are growing rapidly, developing into little fins with nodules at the ends which will eventually become fingers and toes. The arms have already differentiated into hand and shoulder segments.

  • The cerebral hemispheres of the brain are growing, and the eyes and nostrils are appearing. Your baby's heart bulges from its body and the heart chambers are divided and formed. Blood vessels now circulate blood throughout the whole body. The head looks large and is bent on the chest.

  • Your baby's face is forming, but its eyes are on the sides of its head and are still sealed. The discs that will become your baby's eyes will move over to the front of the face over the course of the next few months.

  • Bone cells are beginning to develop and the outline of the baby's nervous system is complete. The pigment in your baby's eyes can be seen under the skin overlaying them. By this point there is also a pancreas and an appendix. The tail is still visible, but it will soon fade. The umbilical cord is growing and the placenta is maturing as well.

Baby's First Picture!

Okay, here's the baby's first picture:
Photobucket

We measured at 5 weeks and 6 days today. (That's a couple of days behind what we thought.)

The doc said everything looked fine. We go back for another ultrasound on September 2nd.

Names

Okay... By popular request, here's a place for comments about names. :)

Friday, August 8, 2008

Week 6

  • Your baby is now about the size of an apple seed. That's about 0.08 to 0.16 inches (2 to 4mm) from crown to rump.
  • It has formed a distinct head with the first stages of eyes and ears.
  • The spinal column and cord are formed.
  • Buds that will grow limbs have also formed.
  • The heart is starting to beat and at this stage its beating may even be detected by sensitive ultrasound equipment, though, it's still very early.
  • The kidneys, liver and nerve cells have also begun to develop.
  • Ten dental buds are growing in the jaws.
  • Blood circulation has begun and primitive red blood cells circulate.
  • The neural tube has closed over along your baby's spine.
  • The optic vesicles, which resemble tiny discs of pigment set in cups along the sides of your baby's head will develop into your baby's eyes.
  • A distinct tail is still present.

2nd Round of Bloodwork

Okay... I just got the call from the doctor's office...

TSH 1.5 - a little on the low side, but good
Progesterone 30.1 - excellent
hCG 525 - great

For the hCG, a doubling time of 48 hours would be 380 - which is the minimum for what we want. Since it's 525, that puts the doubling time at 34.74 hours - which is even better!

My next appointment is now scheduled for August 14th at 3:00pm.

Telling Everyone

Once Daniel got home, we tried to figure out when we wanted to tell everyone. I knew I couldn't keep my mouth shut about it much longer...

He agreed to go ahead and tell family so we started making calls. We made calls Thursday evening/night and Friday. I updated my webpages on Friday as well. We've also spread the word when we've run into people. :)

I decided to go ahead and tell my boss yesterday so she could make any necessary changes to schedules (although I don't think any changes would be necessary) and be thinking of who we might get for my long-term sub for next semester. I also wanted to find out when I have to submit all the various paperwork that goes along with a leave of absence... She said we're a long way from having to do any of that - phew!

Finding Out

Okay, I'm a little behind in getting this started, but here goes:

On Thursday, July 31st, we had an appointment to have some bloodwork done to see if we were pregnant. I decided to go ahead and take a test at home - just for grins. Well, the home test came up positive! I told Daniel and also said we would have to wait for the bloodwork results before we got too excited.

Fast-forward to 2:30pm when I get the call from my Dr.'s office. The nurse told me my hCG level was 76 mIU/ml. That's pregnant!!! I decided to take a couple of more tests while I waited for Daniel to finish with work for the day...

I waited to tell Daniel when he let me know he was on his way to a meeting (I couldn't wait if he wasn't coming straight home). He asked that I wait to tell anyone else until he gets home so we can talk about it...
